Position Overview
Words Warriors is seeking a Public Affairs and Regional Media Engagement Specialist to support a potential contract with a Department of Defense (DoD) client’s Communications and Public Affairs Directorate at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. This role supports high-visibility, mission-critical communications in sensitive federal and defense environments.
The specialist plans and executes public affairs activities, engages with domestic and international media, and supports senior military and civilian leaders in fast-paced and, at times, classified settings. The ideal candidate exercises sound judgment, communicates clearly under pressure, and translates complex operational information into accurate, accessible messaging.
Language Requirements
In addition to public affairs duties, candidates must demonstrate college-level fluency in at least one of the following languages:
Pashto, Farsi, Russian, Arabic, Mandarin, Hebrew, Turkish, Kurmanci Kurdish, or Sorani Kurdish.
The specialist must be able to translate, interpret, and contextualize written and spoken content with an understanding of cultural, regional, and socio-political dynamics. The role requires accurately conveying intent and tone for both U.S. and foreign audiences while maintaining alignment with U.S. strategic communication objectives.
Requirements
Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
Bachelor’s degree.
Five or more years of experience developing public affairs plans and media campaigns{ for government, military, or comparable organizations, or five years of experience as a broadcast or print journalist.
Strong working knowledge of the AP Stylebook.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
Current U.S. passport.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in high-visibility, time-sensitive, and politically complex environments.
Strong organizational, writing, editing, presentation, and time management skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with senior military and civilian leaders in a multidisciplinary team environment.
